Hopefully in school, and class, we have a safe place
to practice both the art of writing and of persuasion. Then later, when we are in our communities, whether work, church, neighborhoods, and even families, we can benefit from this practice.

Persuasion also has another dimension:
it is built with facts, which illustrate conclusions. Of course, this means you need to know what you are talking about, and cannot be lazy with your facts, or you will not succeed in convincing anyone. This shows another level of fear: Fear of making a mistake that will make your argument or persuasion meaningless. Since you are writing, and the words are on paper for all to see (or on a web site!), you need to work to make sure your facts are in order.

a good conclusion could be: So, in conclusion, i have decided that teachers and students should not befriend each other on Facebook and other social websites because they might not feel comfortable with the posts that appear, the problems that could occur from sexual harrassment, and the information available to both the student and teacher.

Cover the highlights of your main points and offer a statement of what it all means. Suppose your thesis was that the U.S. should no longer give aid money to other countries and your main points were that our country has an economic crisis, high unemployment is rampant, and has many natural disasters occur that we need the money for. For your conclusion, you could write the paragraph along these lines (by the way, it is technically not proper to start out by saying "in conclusion"). For years, our country has often been the first to offer aid to other nations that are underdeveloped or have suffered disasters. While it is important to care about others on a national level, our first priority is to our own citizens. Our nation must act to significantly reduce the national debt before spending millions to assist other nations. Furthermore, it is grossly inhumane to those in the U.S. who cannot find employment and are going hungry for our government to feed the starving of other nations. Is it fair for the U.S. to send aid overseas to earthquake vicitms when there are many citizens who will not receive adequate financial help during the increasing natural disasters our own country suffers yearly? Perhaps the solution is to suspend aid to foreign countries until our nation is out of debt and industries are brought back to our shores to provide jobs. (see? you are rehashing the main ideas and getting your opinon/persuasion across without saying "I think or I believe") Hope this helps.

Ok, to start with I would choose the topic that you know most about and are most comfortable with writing. It is your essay so you are the one who needs to feel happy with it. For a narrative you would talk about an experience that you had and tell what you learned from that experience. For descriptive you would just describe what those topics would be like. Also, I know of a FANTASTIC web-page that it designed to help people with writing essays. This web-page provides an outline for an essay, tips and other references that I have found very helpful. Every time I have used the tools and ideas outlined by the web-page for writing my essays I have gotten above a 90% for the final grade. My friends and I believe that this is the best web resource that we have found that helps with writing an essay. Here is the web-page: http://knol.google.com/k/how-to-write-an-effective-essay# If this web-page is helps you, could you pleas rate me as best answer or something for taking the time to help you out? If you did that would be very awesome of you. I hope that the web-page helps you as much as it has helped me. ~Rhinokid122
