Тема: Best way to structure compare/contrast paper?

This handout will help you first to determine whether a particular assignment is asking for comparison/contrast and then to generate a list of similarities and differences, decide which similarities and differences to focus on, and organize your paper so that it will be clear and effective. It will also explain how you can (and why you should) develop a thesis that goes beyond “Thing A and Thing B are similar in many ways but different in others.”

Think about the following things to find an interesting topic. First, what class is this for? What is the most surprising thing you learned in that class? You could compare that to something that was not surprising, and it would show off to your teacher what you learned about the subject. Second think about the things you did in the last day. What was the most interesting? What got you most excited? List things related to the subject, and find something to compare. For instance, if you heard a new band, you could compare them to another favorite band, or you could compare two music styles. You could also compare different instruments. Just try to find something that you can give concrete examples to. You need to be able to say more than "this band is cool and that band is not."
