Тема: Why do you use No. 2 pencils for tests? Why not a No. 3, 4.

Let’s start with the word “pencil.” It comes from a Latin word meaning “little tail.” The writing instrument is made up of a casing that protects a solid pigment core. (By the way, pigment comes from the Latin  pingere ,” which means “to color or paint.”)

As for the ubiquitous and enigmatic No. 2 , the answer is boring in its practicality. The number represents the hardness of the lead ― the lower the number, the softer the metal. Early machines that scanned and scored tests couldn’t detect marks made by hard pencil leads. Marks from by No. 3 and 4 pencils resulted in erroneous results.

This question will probably not be on your standardized test: Why are most pe n cils yellow ? You won’t be able to answer that with a ballpoint pen, or a neon pink highlighter.

It’s polling day. A day ripe for conspiracy theories. Particularly about pencils. Take your own pen to the ballot box, suspicious voters say, because otherwise your vote could be erased by MI5.

According to YouGov , 28 per cent of people believe that the EU referendum will be rigged. The percentage increases to almost half (46 per cent) among Leave voters. And 28 per cent of Leave supporters suspect the pro-EU involvement of the secret services (that MI5 is working with the government to stop Brexit), while 16 per cent of Remain backers are also wary of the involvement of security services.

I have always wanted to make my own pencils, but the thought of shaping two pieces of wood to allow a piece of lead to sit perfectly inside made me think it wasn’t worth the effort. For some reason I was looking at some pieces of lead I have (for a drafting pencil) and “pop” there it was.. a solution to my DIY longing. Here is a tutorial to make pencils that is so ridiculously easy I’ve made 10 pencils since the idea came to me yesterday! Enjoy.

I have to admit I really enjoyed doing this craft. It’s so simple and practical! There are also so many possibilities with this craft! Why not place twine between the layers to make a hook to hook it on something? Or use the ink stick from a pen to wrap! You can also go over board with the size and different layers for the pencil. Check out the picture below where I layered different paper to fade from red to light pink. Need matching pencils for your wedding? Stationary Set? A little something something?

1. Because I have an overwhelming passion that I really can t contain. 2. People who hate, and those who judged me. 3. When I ve been awake for 2-3 days straight and am running on coffee and/or energy drinks. Usually in the middle of night, when I feel happily alone. 4. Things that probably won t come true. Fiction. 5. Myself. 6. When I realized that the paper was my canvas, the pencil was my paintbrush, and my own thoughts the paint. I felt that it was up to me to morph and blend these colors(my ideas) into a magnificent masterpiece that all would hopefully look on as something relative to their own lives, but was pure magic to the variety of hearts out there.

A pencil is a writing implement or art medium constructed of a narrow, solid pigment core inside a protective casing which prevents the core from being broken or leaving marks on the user’s hand during use.

Pencils create marks by physical abrasion, leaving behind a trail of solid core material that adheres to a sheet of paper or other surface. They are distinct from pens , which instead disperse a trail of liquid or gel ink that stains the light colour of the paper.

I ve read sources that the beginning of writing was a way for people to communicate with gods. At first, shamans or priests would read bones and other kinds of oracles. They read the "markings" that were left in the marrow and other kinds of stuff. After awhile (and this is very general, because we re talking about the movement from pre-history to history, so much of our knowledge is based on archaeological guesstimates), these priests began replicating the images found in the oracles and thus writing was developed. At first it was a way to read messages from the gods, but was also a way for elites to communicate with each other.

why? depends on the group to which your refer who are doing the "artwork" ( and i say that laughingly cuz it looks like crap!). as SamHead said, back in the day, Hobo s and the like left their mark (moniker) or a symbol (warnings, info, etc) for other hobo s to see. that was back in the day. very few hobos around nowadays. what they are called now are "crackheads", "gangster wanna-be s", "thugs", lololol. We ll call them idiots since that word can apply to anyone. although, truth be known, without trying to cause a race riot, i have heard it called "N****r art", "poor mans tabloid", and the "illiterates comic strip". who knows why such talented artists wanna spread their disease all over someone elses property when they could make real money at it putting it on canvas. most of it is sickening in my opinion, but i have seen some real good ones aswell. ones that could be well known world wide if they just would put it to the proper medium, and not on someones railroad! does PAPER ring a bell??? some say by doing this they get their artwork out all over the countryside for all to see. nice way to advertise. but really, do you know the crackhead who sprayed his initials on a boxcar from NYC when you live in montana???? so no one really made a choice to put this crap on trains, they just have no better sense of how to express themselves. Hobos had reasons, valid ones, and their marks you kinda had to look for to see. crackheads, well, they are just plain idiots. one saving grace is that unbeknownst to them, the extra paint on the railcars aids in protecting the metal. the downside is the crackheads are painting over informational markings the railroad put there for their use. for instance, car load limits, maintenance dates, brake and plate types, and ofcourse the ever reminding safety first warnings. all of which are vital infos to the railroads. sorry, i just dont see graphitti as a good thing when its in the wrong place. and its a terrible shame, a really good artist will never be seen past the view of the RR tracks.
