Mechanical Engineering is the oldest engineering. The system deals in, basically, the mechanics of machinery and systems. It has been sub divided into specialities. Professionally subdivisions are: Engineering design: Piping, Machine components, selection of material, calculation of loads, strength etc. Production: Manufacturing and construction: Casting, welding, machining, heat treatment etc. Maintenance: of system and machinery. These are just few sub categories. There are several more. Also within these sub categories are areas of specialization asuch as: power plants, HVAC, aeronautics, hydraulics, robotics and so on.
