Since you ve never been in business before, I would strongly recommend that you talk to a business counselor before you do anything especially spend money. You have to determine whether you ll start a web based business or one with a store front. I d call the local office of SCORE (go to http://www.score.org and input your zip code to find the chapter nearest you), the advice is FREE. The counselor at SCORE will most likely advise you to write a business plan which is very good advice because it will force you to dig out all of the start up details and the costs of starting a gymnastics school and force you to also understand all of the aspects of this business including the customers you ll concentrate on (your market ) and how you ll go after them. You ll need to register the business with your state controller s office and make sure that you have any city and county licenses if any are needed where you live. All of this will come out in a business plan. Try this link : http://www.ychange.com/small-business-consulting-articles.html and read some of the articles especially the ones about a business plan and starting a business. Good Luck

your mother definitely has some good points.. .. she obviously is worried about the cheerleading clichees (all that players&cheerleaders stuff). you should be fair and sincere. after all, the gymnastics are only a preparation for cheerleading from what i understand. i guess your father is "projecting" too much. setting terms such as "being a starting point guard" etc. all that sounds like sports are pretty much seen as proffesional occupation; in that case, you have to do the business plan; i dont think cheerleading can ever make money for living for you. you need to asses your qualities in other sports. bottomline> as for gymnastics, being 14yo with no competition under belt, and starting all over, you re pretty much screwed. (female gymnasts retire by 20 or so) on the other hand, gymnastics DEFINITELY mean some serious positive influence on your body, when performed properly and in "fun" level. it improves body posture, and overall fitness. you could play the "less cost for maintenance in a long run" tune. last but not least> a hint for you: here in Europe, you will do much better with some Latin dancing.. you can even do a good living as a trainer. cheerleading may look attractive but, sincerely have you seen 40+ cheerleaders? you can dance/teach flamenco as a 40yo, and GET MONEY for it.
