Let m = your age now Let b = your brothers age now m = 4b now. 2 years from now your age is m+2 and your brother s is b+2 in 2 years b+2 is 3 times older than m+2 m+2 = 3(b+2) substitute m with 4b and solve for b 4b+2 = 3(b+2) -> 4b = 3b + 6 - 2 -> b = 4 If b=4 then m = 4*4 = 16 Let x = the number of years in which m will be 2x older than b m+x = 2(b+x) substitute the values for m and b and solve for x 16 +x = 2(4+x) -> 16 = 8 + 2x -x -> 8 = x In 8 years you will be twice as old as your brother. 16 + 8 = 24 4 + 8 = 12
