This handout will explain what literature reviews are and offer insights into the form and construction of literature reviews in the humanities, social sciences, and sciences.

OK. You’ve got to write a literature review. You dust off a novel and a book of poetry, settle down in your chair, and get ready to issue a “thumbs up” or “thumbs down” as you leaf through the pages. “Literature review” done. Right?

Besides enlarging your knowledge about the topic, writing a literature review lets you gain and demonstrate skills in two areas

A literature review is a piece of discursive prose , not a list describing or summarizing one piece of literature after another. It’s usually a bad sign to see every paragraph beginning with the name of a researcher. Instead, organize the literature review into sections that present themes or identify trends, including relevant theory. You are not trying to list all the material published, but to synthesize and evaluate it according to the guiding concept of your thesis or research question

They generally don’t read, and most have difficulty writing at grade level. My classes have always been focused on developing writing skills using historical.

Social Studies and World Languages Support Specialist Higley Unified School District, Arizona In Higley Unified School Distirct, we administer a pretest in the first week of school for (9-12). It is a reading test, but I think using the DBQ documents and analysis strategies have really improved our kids ability to digest informational text which has become much more of.

Welcome to the Theoi Project, a site exploring Greek mythology and the gods in classical literature and art. The aim of the project is to provide a comprehensive, free reference guide to the gods ( theoi ), spirits ( daimones ), fabulous creatures ( theres ) and heroes of ancient Greek mythology and religion.

The Theoi Project profiles each deity and creature of Greek mythology on a separate page, incorporating an encyclopedia summary, quotations from a wide selection of ancient Greek and Roman texts, and illustrations from ancient art. Analysis of the texts and interpretation of the stories of myth is currently beyond the scope of the project. For such detailed analysis, I would suggest consulting some of the good books available on the subject.

In September 2016, we announced the creation of a new MA at Tufts University which will begin in Fall 2017. Read more.

An earlier blog entry pointed to a draft description of work on a new Perseus that we expect will appear, in some fashion, as a formal Request for Proposals from Leipzig in early January 2017. One reason to circulate this description is to get feedback. A second is to be able to explore different approaches before any formal RFP emerges. Read more.
