At Solstice, students are in residence on campus for ten days, twice a year, for a total of five residencies over two years. During the 10-day residencies, students and faculty gather on Pine Manor College’s lovely, wooded campus a mere five miles from downtown Boston and attend workshops, classes, panel discussions, and readings. As a student in our program, you can pursue the study of fiction, poetry, nonfiction, and screenwriting. Within these genres you can pursue concentrations in publishing/editing, spiritual writing, or literary health and healing.

Sierra Nevada College graduates will be educated to be scholars of and contributors to a sustainable world. Sierra Nevada College combines the liberal arts and professional preparedness through an interdisciplinary curriculum that emphasizes entrepreneurial thinking and environmental, social, economic and educational sustainability.

Residency programs in Lisbon, Portugal (Summer) and Richmond, Kentucky (Summer) provide intensive, culturally enriching writing experiences :

Students may enter the Bluegrass Writers Studio™ program during Fall or Spring semester, as well as during the annual summer residencies (held in late June/early July).

Our small class sizes provide an intimate setting in which you will establish trust and rapport with your classmates and receive one-on-one advising and feedback from your professors.

The alumni have won 16 Pulitzers, and alumni include Philip Roth, Jane Smiley, John Irving, John Cheever, Marilynne Robinson (Gilead), Michael Cunningham (The Hours), John Berryman, W.D.
