I enjoy the more technical aspects of photography, but with an artistic goal in mind. I like to know my camera settings, angles, focus depth, fall-off, as well as other aspects of the scene that directly affect the result. Most of my work is now commercial or conceptual with the occasional retouching job thrown in for good measure. I love passing on my knowledge through the various workshops and speaking opportunities around the country.

I haven t made it in a long time but my grandma s recipe called for cooking the butter, sugar and corn syrup before adding the eggs and nuts and pouring into the crust. Try a recipe like that instead.

Right now the news business is changing very quickly. But a good and persistent writer can find a place as a journalist. In college get a degree in journalism and a second field. That way you have a field you can specialize in as a journalist or as another career option. Freelance vs working for one newspaper/magazine. Working for one paper gives you stability. As a freelance writer you will have to spend time everyday sending out query letters looking for work. Depending on how you sell your work you could sell a story multiple times. (Working for one paper you won t have this option. The paper owns the copywrite.). The key is to be flexible and persistant.
