An environmental problem is not solved by the scientific method, it s identified and defined by the scientific method. Solving problems can be done by policy; and that can be doing something or stopping doing something. Another method is by engineering a solution. And it might not be a solving but rather a reduction of the problem. My best example is the engineering of a catalytic converter for cars to reduce the pollutants of burning gasoline and improving air quality.
