CUR officially endorsed the mission of the March for Science, a celebration of science that will take place on April 22, 2017 (Earth Day) at 10 am on.

The Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education has issued revised undergraduate research standards, including a definition and best.

This is a work in progress, intended to organize my thoughts on the process of formulating a proposal. If you have any thoughts on the contents, or on the notion of making this available to students, please share them with me. Thanks.

My project explores how Americans reimagined the social contract, or how individuals relate to their society, following the ratification of the Constitution in 1788. Historians and legal theorists often interpret ratification as the culmination of a national debate that set the new political order in place. But in the first decades after ratification, Americans—as they still do today—continued to discuss and redefine what individual rights, representation, citizenship, and other concepts should mean.

Half of the world lives in cities today. A critical question for scholars and political planners alike, is how can a city maintain itself for a long period of time? Archaeology is the one discipline that can study the often millennia long history of a city. My research site is the ancient Maya city of Aventura, which has a long 2,500 year history. Founded around 1000 BC and occupied at least until AD 1500 (Spanish Conquest) this Pre-Columbian city offers a unique opportunity to study how a city changes through time.

When applying for the PhD programme you will need to produce a document that outlines your proposed research topic and programme of research. Quality rather than quantity is the key to a good proposal (as a guide we are looking for 1000-2000 words).

Below is an outline of the elements a research proposal might typically contain. Whilst there is no right or wrong way to produce a research proposal, we would recommend reading the advice of Dr. Nicola Bown, former Deputy Director of the Graduate School, on how to make sure your proposal is effective.

Here you will find the tools and information that you need to present at a conference, write a proposal, or a research paper or thesis.

At Carnegie Mellon, undergraduates are building mobile robots, creating documentary films, investigating cultural trends, and developing new digital communication technology. These student researchers find themselves in the heart of the University intellectual community, where they discover the thrilling (and often messy) process of creating new knowledge.

We use a broad definition of research that includes appropriate activities in the arts and humanities , as well as the sciences and technical fields : "Research, scholarly, or artistic activities that lead to the production of new knowledge; to increased problem solving capabilities, including design and analysis; to original critical or historical theory and interpretation; or to the production of art or artistic performance."

The Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program supports active research participation by undergraduate students in any of the areas of research funded by the National Science Foundation. REU projects involve students in meaningful ways in ongoing research programs or in research projects specifically designed for the REU program. I believe that the REU program that you have an interest in just wants a good personal statement from you in one page single spaced. Since their major interest is in research experiences for undergraduates, I would write it this way. Make about three personal references in the one page. Then tell them about how your goals of being accepted by this program will help you achieve life goals. One example is the following: This is a one page essay about you and your life. "I was born in a log cabin in Springfield, Illinois." That is what my mother told me. She also showed me a picture of herself with me in her arms in 1995. Put this kind of documentation with this personal statement about three or four times and I think you can justify it to the committee if you complete your application to that program. The recruiter looks for a good, interesting personal statement that is well-written and meets the objective of telling what, where and how you concluded that this was the program to which you are applying. Good luck.
